Works were completed for an office fit out and installation of a new mezzanine floor at Brixton Station.
Steel beams and angles were fixed into the existing concrete columns and beam grid to support a rib deck steel deck floor which acted as permanent formwork to support the new reinforced concrete floor.
A lytag, lightweight, pulverized fuel ash screed was applied over the existing concrete slab above the station concourse to overcome client concerns regarding weight. This significantly reduced loadings in comparison to traditional sand and cement screed.
Drainage work for new toilets and showers was carried out. Connection into existing drainage pipe work in the underground station ticket hall directly below our site was undertaken during engineering hours. A new aluminium shop front and security door entry system was installed beside the station entrance.
Mechanical installation included ventilation and a comfort cooling unit system. Electric installation included a new circuit distribution board, small power and dado trunking throughout and new light fittings supported within the new suspended ceiling. Close liaison with the station management was necessary to overcome all grounds of concern from security, noise and all other aspects that arise from working within an occupied and sensitive environment.
