H A Marks are pleased to announce the completion of a temporary development combining community space, a café, affordable work and retail spaces at Ebury Edge in Westminster, London.
The project, part of an more extensive regeneration programme that Westminster City Council is undertaking in the area, involved the replacement of a vacant pre-existing 1950's block and comprises two storeys of workspace units including a colourful timber-clad terrace along Ebury Bridge Road.
The frontage of a cafe, incorporating a community hall in a distinct, single storey structure gives an innovative appearance to the Estate.
The construction utilised pre-fabricated timber components that are demountable and can be re-erected elsewhere when the site is re-developed. This method allows easy customisation while keeping the building light, minimising foundations and embodied carbon.
As a result the development has been nominated for a number of awards including the New London Awards 2021 where it won the Community Prize and the Civic Trust Awards 2022 where it won the Pro Tem Highly Commended award where the judges commented "This innovatively conceived, interestingly executed and well-run scheme lives up to its stated aim of giving the area a lively street presence and continuing focal point for the community during its re-development."
