Merton Priory – A new Lease of Life for Hidden Gem of History

Merton Priory – A new Lease of Life for Hidden Gem of History

We are very pleased to have been appointed by London Borough of Merton to complete works to the 12th Century Merton Priory Chapter House. Merton Priory was one of the most important of all Augustinian foundations prior to its destruction in 1538 by Henry VIII.

The project aims to rejuvenate this fantastic scheduled monument with the excavated remains of the Chapter House of Merton Priory dating back to approximately c1117.

This project aims to:

  • Stabilise and preserve the remains of the Priory.
  • Enhance their setting and establish a modern educational and events centre.
  • Adapt and extend existing facilities to create a state-of-the-art space for the presentation and interpretation of the archaeological remains of Merton Priory and the wider site.
  • Negotiate the return of some of the surviving artefacts from the Museum of London Archives and display them for the benefit of residents and visitors. (https://wandlevalleypark.co.uk/)
