Charing Cross Station

Here we designed and installed suspended ceilings and wall cladding over the escalator shaft whilst integrating a new lighting system. H.A. Marks had to undertake specialist design for the perimeter and ticket line bulkheads.

 

All bulkheads required to powder coated galvanised steel and integrated with other trades i.e CCTV and speaker systems.

 

Farnborough Railway Station

The project is located at the Grade II Listed, main station building.

Works consisted of:

  • Construction of new extension to station building
  • Installation of new DDA compliant toilets
  • Structural alterations to main ticket hall
  • Structural alterations to station supervisors offices
  • Remodeling of retail units
  • Remodeling of main ticket hall
  • Refurbishment of offices

 

Clapham Junction Station - Staff Accommodation

Clapham Junction Train Station is one of the busiest Rail Stations in Europe, handling up to 50,000 passengers per day. The project is located on Platforms 9 & 10 and consisted of staff accommodation and customer service area improvements.

Works consisted of phased refurbishment of the staff office accommodation along with the creation of a new waiting room, including heavy structural alterations, new pumped drainage, new toilets, upgrading of all M&E services.

The works were phased in two sections.

Phase one was the refurbishment of the proposed staff accommodation building.

Brixton Station

Works were completed for an office fit out and installation of a new mezzanine floor at Brixton Station.
Steel beams and angles were fixed into the existing concrete columns and beam grid to support a rib deck steel deck floor which acted as permanent formwork to support the new reinforced concrete floor.

A lytag, lightweight, pulverized fuel ash screed was applied over the existing concrete slab above the station concourse to overcome client concerns regarding weight. This significantly reduced loadings in comparison to traditional sand and cement screed.

Drainage work for new toilets and showers was carried out. Connection into existing drainage pipe work in the underground station ticket hall directly below our site was undertaken during engineering hours. A new aluminium shop front and security door entry system was installed beside the station entrance.

Ascot Railway Station

Ascot Station is adjacent to Ascot Racecourse and regularly handles up to 30,000 passengers on race days. The Grade II Listed building is located at the main station.

Works consisted of:

 

  • Construction of new waiting rooms
  • Remodeling of a retail unit
  • Remodeling of main ticket hall
  • New DDA toilets
  • New offices

 

The works were phased in sequence and included diversion of services, substructure works, heavy structural alterations, new drainage, new toilets and upgrading of mechanical & electrical services.

Careful logistics and passenger safety were our top priority on this project with much of the works carried out at nights and weekends.

Deliveries and removals were organised using special freight trains at nights to minimise disruption.

Express Chambers – Edgware Station

H.A. Marks have successfully carried out the full external renovations, redecorations and re-roofing works to this residential block of flats. The Block is owned and managed by Transport for London and is located beside Edgware Station.

One challenge encountered was erecting the gable end scaffold, which bounds onto a busy 24hr Bus Terminal. By careful coordination with all parties and controlled night working we were able to overcome the problem and complete the works on schedule.

Work undertaken included graffiti removal, brick pointing and cleaning, decorations to windows, rendered walls, metalwork, and installation of a 3-layered high performance felt to the concrete flat roof.

London Underground - Fulham - Calibration Unit – Extension Project - Phases I & II

Description of Works; To convert a disused Warehouse/Store Area to a new workshop/laboratory unit. The Calibration dept. of LUL require a climate controlled work area with constant temperatures to enable their work of Re-Calibrating Survey & Gauging Equipment.

 

The project involved sectioning off a section of the warehouse, erecting insulated metal studwork partitions, new insulated Suspended ceilings, new lighting and small power, new Anti-Slip flooring, new extraction system for fumes, new Air Conditioning, Creation of Structural Openings to link the existing Caliberation Unit to the newly extended area, Tiling, Decorations & 2nd Fix Joinery.

London Underground - Commercial Kitchen/Restaurant Fit Out - Acton LUL Depot,

The scope of work included strip out of existing kitchen, make safe and adapt services, removal of existing floor and wall tiling and backing, new floor screed and wall plastering, new lighting, electric and gas services, new extract canopy, anti slip floor tiling, wall tiling, roof lights to staff offices off the kitchen, joinery and supply and installation of new kitchen equipment.

 

The program duration was short and important to our client. H A Marks scheduled noisy works not to occur around canteen busy periods and materials were carefully specified to aid the program. For example, the floor screed drying out times would have an effect on commencing the floor tiling.

LUL - REW - Engineering Workshop Stores Warehouse

The former storage area to one side of the dispatch area had been a canopied stores.

 

H.A Marks completed full site investigations and designed and engineered, steel framed single storey warehouse shed.

 

The site was highly restricted for space and to get the maximum space, a new unit some 60m long was constructed.

 

The cladding was carefully colour matched, installed and flashed in to the existing REW dispatch warehouse.

 

Careful considerations were given to the drainage layout which had to be relaid in areas to deal with the surface water.

LUL - REW Covered Wheel Area

The REW (Rail Engineering Workshop) at Acton Rail Depot invested in a new Factory extension & Storage Facility.

Constructed under LUL's stringent QUENSH Conditions, the project consisted of the construction of a new Steel Framed Extension to the existing REW Factory.

A particular feature of the project was the a complex system of piling and groundbeams designed around a high density of existing Sub-Terrianial High Voltage Cables.

We used 3d sub terrain scanning technology along with proving excavations to carefully plot and locate the cables.

We designed and constructed a Steel Framed, Steel Profiled Clad Factory extension with an Integral Gantry Crane, a Hydraulic Turntable and Railway System for the storage of new Train Wheel Sets.

The project was challenging but proved a great success and worthy additional to REW's State of the Art Engineering Facility at Acton.

Honiton Station

The waiting room, Ticket Hall and Administration offices at Honiton Station were partially demolished and cleared.

During the works a temporary Ticket Hall, Waiting Room and Staff Areas were provided to enable the continued operations of the station.

The main Steel Frame and Roof of the Ticket Hall was maintained whilst the rest of the areas were stripped out and demolished.
H.A Marks constructed a New Build Extension to the Station to include services, new Metsec Framing to Walls & Ceilings, new Toilet Areas and New Staff Acommodation.

We carried out a full re-fit/refurbishment to the other areas to include new Mechanical & Electrical Services. A large scale DDA Ramp was constructed to the front of the station.

The project was a great success and the works were finished on time and on budget with minimal disruption to the Stations operations.

Croxley Green Station

In the Autumn of 2008 we carried out the Refurbishment & New Service Installation works to a large Flat owned by TFL over Croxley Station. With our alternate heat source specialist Greentech we installed an air source heating system for the property.

We provided the following system which comprises of one 7kw external heat pump unit combined with an internally installed hydro box complete with 3kw backup heater and one 200l hot water tank with 3kw immersion heater, all interconnecting plumbing were as per pictures and refrigeration pipe work linking internal hydro box to external heat pump unit.

The Controls for the heating system were located behind the front cover of the hydro
box unit. In addition we installed eight new radiators including one towel rail for the bathroom, all radiators have been fitted with thermostatic rad valves.
